THE SHORT VERSION
- No ads. No tracking. No analytics. We set no cookies.
- We never ask for or keep your name or email.
- If you request a man to be ranked, we keep a scrambled code, not who you are, so each person counts once.
- Things you save on this site (reactions, skills, your home plan, test results) stay in your own browser. We never see them.
- Only if you choose Save with Google on the Skills page, we keep your skills list under a scrambled code so it follows you to other devices. You can delete it any time.
WHO RUNS THIS SITE
humbored.com is an independent site run by one person. Contact: humbored.contact@gmail.com. Write to this address for any privacy question or request.
JUST VISITING
The site is hosted on GitHub Pages. Like any web host, GitHub's servers see your IP address and what your browser asks for, and may keep this in short-term logs for security. We don't get those logs. GitHub's privacy statement.
Our fonts are stored on humbored.com itself, so just reading the site doesn't contact Google.
A few men have no free photo, so we show their own public profile picture instead, loaded straight from Facebook (Meta) or, for TikTok pictures, through unavatar.io. When one of those pictures appears, that service sees your IP address. We don't keep anything.
Why: to deliver and show the website (legitimate interest, GDPR Art. 6(1)(f)).
SEARCHING FOR A MAN
When you type 3 or more letters into the search, your browser also looks the words up on Wikipedia and Wikidata to find men who aren't on the boards yet. Wikimedia sees what you typed and your IP address. We don't keep your searches. Wikimedia's privacy policy.
REQUESTING A RANKING
When you press REQUEST A RANKING, we keep:
| What | Why | How long |
|---|---|---|
| The man's name, Wikipedia link and request counts | To see who people want ranked, and how much | Until we've dealt with the request |
| Your IP address | To stop spam (5 requests a minute) | 60 seconds |
| A scrambled code made from your IP address (no account) | So one connection counts once per man | 30 days |
| A scrambled code made from your Google account ID (signed in) | So one account counts once per man | 12 months |
The codes are one-way: we can't turn them back into your IP address or your account, and we never see your name, email or photo. This is stored with Cloudflare, which hosts our request service for us. Cloudflare's privacy policy.
Why: to run the request queue fairly and stop spam (legitimate interest, GDPR Art. 6(1)(f)). Signing in is your choice (consent, GDPR Art. 6(1)(a)); you can request without an account.
SAVING YOUR SKILLS WITH GOOGLE
On the Skills page you can press SAVE WITH GOOGLE so your list follows you to another phone or computer. Then we keep:
| What | Why | How long |
|---|---|---|
| Your skills list (which skills you saved to learn or already know) | So you can pick up where you left off on any device | 12 months after your last change, or until you delete it |
| A scrambled code made from your Google account ID | To find your list again when you sign in | Kept with the list |
| Your IP address | To stop spam (30 saves a minute) | 60 seconds |
Press delete saved copy on the Skills page to remove it from our server straight away; your list stays on your device. Signing out keeps the saved copy for next time. This is stored with Cloudflare, like ranking requests.
Why: you asked us to keep it (consent, GDPR Art. 6(1)(a)). Without signing in, your skills stay in your browser only.
SIGNING IN WITH GOOGLE
Signing in is optional. Google's sign-in script only loads once the request box appears, or when you press SAVE WITH GOOGLE on the Skills page (and on later visits to the Skills page if you stayed signed in there), not on every visit. When you sign in, Google tells us a permanent ID for your account, and we turn it straight into a scrambled code. Google will know you signed in to humbored.com. Your sign-in only lasts while the page is open; we don't save it. The Skills page remembers in your browser that you signed in there, so Google can offer to sign you back in. Google's privacy policy.
SAVED ONLY IN YOUR BROWSER
Some pages remember things in your browser's own storage on your device. It never leaves your device, and we can't see it: profile reactions, which men you've requested, your skills list (also on our server only if you chose Save with Google), your home game plan, your Manly Test results and your Mental Health picks. Clear your browser's site data to delete it.
VIDEOS AND LINKS
On the Skills page, the video preview pictures come from YouTube's image server, so Google sees your IP address when you open that page. The videos themselves play in YouTube's privacy-enhanced mode, and only after you press play. Then YouTube (Google) may also set its own cookies. Links to news sites, Wikipedia, Instagram and crisis lines take you to other sites with their own privacy rules.
DATA OUTSIDE THE EU
GitHub, Google, Cloudflare and Wikimedia may handle data in the USA. GitHub, Google and Cloudflare take part in the EU–US Data Privacy Framework.
YOUR RIGHTS
You can ask to see, correct or delete your data, to limit how it's used, or object to it being used. Write to humbored.contact@gmail.com. Because we only keep scrambled codes, we usually can't tell which entry is yours, so we'll explain what we can and can't find. You can also complain to a data protection authority, such as the one where you live.
CHANGES
If we change what we keep, we'll update this page and the date at the top.
